Spider-Verse 2 Merch Reveals First Looks At New Spider-Man Characters
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse toys give the first looks at some of the new Spider-Men who will be joining Miles Morales in the sequel.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse reveals a first look of some of the animated sequel’s new Spider-Man characters through a wave of toys. The sequel will have the difficult mission of following the Academy Award-winning 2018 movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The original animated film introduced the protagonist Miles Morales, who had to step up as Spider-Man and befriend a number of multiversal variants of the hero. Now, the sequel will put Miles face to face with even more Spider-Man variants.
Funko — following THR‘s original reveal — shared on Twitter a new wave of toys for the movie, showing a better look at the film’s known cast and the first look at new multiverse Spider-Man variants from Across the Spider-Verse.
The toys include new looks at main characters such as Miles and Spider-Gwen, as well at the best look yet at new Spider-Man variants such as Spider-Punk, Spider-Woman, Spider-Man India and more. The new wave of toys also revealed the first looks at the fan-favorite Scarlet Spider, comics’ newcomer Spider-Byte, and a new design of the villain Vulture — dubbed “Medieval Vulture.”
What To Expect From Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse looks poised to take everything that worked in the original movie and amplify it in the new adventure. While in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse the wall-crawler’s variants came into Miles’ universe, the sequel could rival the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s impending Avengers: Secret Wars, as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will feature Miles traversing through several universes and meeting a wide array of Spider-Man characters — an extensive multiversal adventure before the MCU releases theirs.
As the toys announced show, there are even more Spider-Man variants being kept hidden until the movie releases. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse‘s first trailer already garnered enough chatter due to how many different versions of Spider-Man were spotted, which means that the thought of huge characters — such as the just-revealed Scarlet Spider — being kept under wraps for the movie will generate even more anticipation for the film. The previous movie’s cast makes way for new variants — with Nicolas Cage confirming that his Spider-Man Noir will not be returning.
Spider-Gwen and Peter B. Parker return to help Miles venture through the multiverse and likely clean up the confusion between him and Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 that the Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer displayed. The new movie will also be distinct from other theatrical animated films, with one animator from the movie having described the flick as more mature in nature and “not a kid’s movie.” Miles being away from his parents and even his own universe — while trying to save the entire multiverse — perfectly aligns with the tone teased by the animator and how old Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse‘s Miles Morales is.
